The Beauties in the Ocean — Natural Beauty is more than Skincare

The Beauties in the Ocean

We support the Iberian Orca Guardians, founded by Sarah Connor and Janek Andre, who are dedicated to protecting the last population of Iberian orcas.

The Iberian orcas are a small, genetically distinct population living between the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bay of Biscay. They are highly specialized hunters, following a single prey species — the Atlantic bluefin tuna — on its migrations. Today, only around 35 animals remain, and the population is considered critically endangered.

Closer than you think

Their offspring stay with their mother for life — sons especially never leave her side, with mother and son swimming together for decades. Each family even has its own "name": a call that lets mother and child find one another again across vast distances.

Orcas are also among the very few creatures on Earth that, like us humans, experience menopause. The "grandmothers" often live decades beyond their fertile years, leading the family.

And they mourn their dead. In 2018, a female named Tahlequah carried her dead newborn for 17 days and over 1,600 kilometers through the sea, accompanied by her entire family.

They are threatened by overfishing of their food source, pollutants in the water, and the dense shipping traffic on one of the busiest routes in the world. In recent years, individual animals have repeatedly approached sailboats, deliberately nudging their rudders. What is sensationally portrayed as an "attack" is, according to current research, more likely curiosity or a learned form of play among young, highly intelligent and social animals.

Through patrols, observation and research, education, media outreach, and human-animal conflict resolution — especially by supporting sailors in orca territory — the Guardians work to replace the distorted image of the "attacking orca" with facts, and to protect the last remaining animals.

For us, the ocean is at the very heart of everything. It embodies freedom, strength, calm, and beauty. It is also the source of uniquely precious active ingredients: marine organisms live under extreme conditions and have developed remarkable protective mechanisms as a result. This makes them some of the most potent natural ingredients in cosmetics — and the true heart of our products.

And because we wanted our products not only to benefit from the ocean, but also to give back to its protection, our packaging is made predominantly from recycled Ocean Bound Plastic — plastic collected from coastlines before it ever reaches the sea.
