care for orcas: Donation Campaign

Fewer than 35. That's how many Iberian orcas remain. With care for orcas, we're joining forces with the Iberian Orca Guardians Foundation to do something about it.

Protecting the oceans is essential to the orcas' survival. Marine pollution, heavy shipping traffic, and overfishing are increasingly threatening their habitat and leading to acute food shortages. Fewer than 35 Iberian orcas now live in the waters off Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. At the same time, encounters between orcas and sailboats have made headlines in recent years, with many media outlets hastily portraying them as "attacks."

The natural cosmetics brand caremare is an official partner of the Iberian Orca Guardians Foundation (IOGF), founded by artist and marine conservationist Sarah Connor and Janek Andre (founder of WeWhale). The joint fundraising campaign launched on June 4, 2026: until July 14, 2026 — World Orca Day — caremare is donating one euro per product sold to the foundation under the motto care for orcas. The IOGF is active on multiple fronts, including patrol missions in the Strait of Gibraltar, supporting sailors, and vital public education work.

"The Iberian orcas are one of the most endangered orca populations in the world. In the media, they're mainly portrayed as a danger to sailors — when in fact, they are the ones urgently in need of protection. caremare's financial support for this project close to our hearts means a great deal to us." - Sarah Connor

What the campaign achieves

With care for orcas, caremare and the IOGF are sending a clear signal for the protection of the oceans and their inhabitants: raising awareness for the endangered Iberian orcas — and fostering concrete, long-term conservation measures.

The partnership has been in place for some time. As early as April 2026, caremare donated 10,000 euros to the IOGF — directly funding operational measures: 5,000 euros for boat maintenance, and another 5,000 euros for mooring fees, fuel, and support for the teams on site. "Without this initial donation, the season wouldn't have been able to start with the intensity it needed," the foundation says.

"Every additional euro from this campaign means more hours of patrol, more reach, more protection for the orcas," says Janek Andre of the IOGF. "We're on the water from April to September — and our joint campaign with caremare runs right through the middle of this season."

How it works

During the campaign period, shop at caremare.com using the code CARE4ORCAS and receive 10% off. At the same time, caremare donates one euro to the IOGF for every product sold — regardless of order value.

Sven Jarck, founder of caremare: "Customers aren't donating themselves through a higher product price — instead, they're enabling caremare to support the IOGF. As a thank-you, our customers receive 10% off our skincare."

You can follow the current donation total live at caremare.com/pages/care4orcas. Once the campaign ends, we'll publish the final total.

About the Iberian Orca Guardians Foundation

The foundation is based in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain, and was founded in October 2024 by artist Sarah Connor and Janek Andre. Its mission: to protect the fewer than 35 remaining Iberian orcas — through patrol missions, public education, conflict resolution with sailors, and correcting misleading media coverage. Partners include Global Orca Charity, Sea Shepherd France, Ocean Blue Tree, and WeWhale, among others. More information: iberian-orca-guardians.org
